We are a Norwegian VC-backed technology company that enables retail banks to issue mobile payment products to its private and merchant customers. The concept behind Auka was founded by Daniel R. Döderlein in 2010 under the name mCASH. The company’s vision was to enable everyone to pay, and get paid with minimal friction. In February 2014, mCASH launched its combined P2P and P2M platform. With one retail bank (BN Bank) and marquee merchants, such as Starbucks and Burger King as partners.
Over the following 20 months mCASH did end-user and merchant acquisition and acquiring, guerilla marketing, merchant onboarding and roll-out, risk management, product iterations and customer support. By fall 2015, the hype curve around fintech started to gain serious traction. With the need for banks to offer attractive and easy to use services mobile payments became a hot topic. As a result, banks who had been watching mCASH´s growth from the sideline now wanted to get new products to the market fast.
In October 2015, mCASH entered into an exclusive territory flagship agreement with the second largest financial institution in Norway, the SpareBank 1 Group. Selling the operational rights and naming rights of mCASH paved the way for the establishment of Auka in the fall of 2015.
